Welcome to Learn Make Repeat! I’m so happy you found your way to this site. Let me tell you a little bit about my journey as a creator and a maker, and I why I ultimately decided to start Learn Make Repeat.

It all started with a Facebook post. A mom in a private group to which I belong proudly posted a photo of an adorable crocheted pumpkin her young daughter had made. Needless to say, I fell in love with that pumpkin. It was too-stinkin’-cute. With that, the gears started turning… If a kid could figure this crochet thing out, surely I could figure it out, right?

And so, my crochet journey began. Once I figured out how to crochet those pumpkins (thanks to Bella Coco Crochet), I was on a roll. I pumped out a dozen before I tried my hand at crocheting a scarf with a pattern from Lion Brand Yarn. Then, a really adorable pie hot pad from Yarnspirations. My friends and family were impressed with how quickly I progressed.

“Wow, you really have a knack for this,” my mom texted me after I sent her a pic of a little Christmas wreath ornament I crocheted (again, with the help from Bella Coco Crochet). But, the thing is — I don’t have a knack for crocheting. I don’t have any discernable talent for it. And that’s okay, because what I do have is a deep understanding of how I learn, and that, more than anything else, has made — and will continue to make — all the difference for me.

Although I didn’t think much of it at the time, I now realize that the approach I’ve taken to learn crochet — and other crafts, most recently calligraphy — is very much informed by my understanding of instructional design and the learning sciences. But what if you don’t have a background in education? That’s where Learn Make Repeat comes in.

My goal with this blog is to translate what the research tells us about how adult learns into concrete strategies and tactics we call all use to learn and master our craft(s) of choice whether we enroll in formal courses or go it alone.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey. I can’t wait to learn with and from you! ❤
